Blue Streaks News · Mary Fox Fischer ’01 Honored As Blue Streaks’ All-Time Leading Scorer In Basketball

Magnificat High School honored Mary Fox Fischer ’01 as being the school’s all-time leading scorer in basketball on Wednesday, February 6th at halftime of its Varsity Basketball contest Vs. Hathaway Brown School.  She finished her basketball career at Magnificat with 1,179 points, and she is the only 1,000 point score in school history.

Fox Fischer played both basketball and volleyball at Magnificat. She was an All-District selection three times in basketball, while being named first team All-Ohio in 2000 and 2001. As a senior, she served as captain on both the basketball and volleyball teams. Her basketball and volleyball teams won many district championships.  She was a starting hitter on Magnificat’s state runner-up team in volleyball for the 1999 season.

Fox Fischer continued her basketball career at Iowa State University where she was chosen a two-time team captain, while also being selected to the Academic Big 12 squad in 2005.

After college graduation, she played professional basketball in Ireland and was a member of the Irish Women’s national team. In 2007, she was named the league’s MVP, the Euro Basketball “Player of the Year” and led her team to the league championship.

She was inducted into the Magnificat Athletic Hall of Fame in 2011.

She returned to her alma mater in 2009 as an assistant varsity basketball coach, and currently, she continues to work with may area basketball players focusing on individual skill development.
