Blue Streaks News · Magnificat Names Alan Meininghaus Associate Head Varsity Rowing Coach


Magnificat is excited to announce Alan Meininghaus as its new Associate Head Varsity Rowing Coach.

Coach Meininghaus has been involved in the sport of rowing since he has been 14 years old. An accomplished oarsman, he has won several National Championships with North Allegheny High School in Wexford, PA during his High School Rowing career. After high school, he rowed for the University of Washington, in Seattle, WA. As a Washington Oarsman from 2008-2012, he won two National championships, and an International Championship.

Coach Meininghaus’ credentials began after his junior year of college coaching the Master’s Program at Three Rivers Rowing. After college, he was an award-winning coach at Pittsburgh Central Catholic Crew and Oakland Catholic Rowing. During his tenure, both programs saw heightened success at the Scholastic level, as well as, the National level. Coach Meininghaus returned to Washington to coach Under Michael Callahan as an intern assistant coach for the 2015 National Champion UW men’s crew, coaching the varsity four and assisting the freshman eight crews that each took first place at the IRA National Championships in their respective events. After his year as an intern coach, the UW Woman’s crew Head Coach Bob Ernst, hired him as the UW women’s second assistant coach for the 2015-2016 season. He coached the Varsity four to a second-place finish at the NCAA National Championships in 2016.

Coach Meininghaus has served as the Head Rowing Coach for Saint Edward High School in Lakewood, OH from 2016-2019. The team saw continued success taking a crew to the 2017 US Rowing Youth National Championship and three athletes competing with 2019 USRowing Junior Olympic Development Team.

He holds a Master’s degree in Sports Management, with a concentration in Intercollegiate Athletic Administration from California University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor’s in History from the University of Washington.

Blue Streak’s Head Varsity Rowing Coach, Joe Mariuzza, had this to say about the addition of Coach Meininghaus to the Magnificat Rowing staff, “With 10+ years of coaching experience, he will be an excellent addition to the staff of Magnificat Rowing.  We are excited to utilize his talents in regards to his expertise in technique, strength & conditioning and rigging that will help bring our rowing team to the next level.”
