Basketball Runs Past Shaker Heights In District Semifinal 61-14

Magnificat Basketball started the game off strong in the first quarter and never looked back on the way to a 61-14 victory over Shaker Heights in an OHSAA Division II District Semifinal on February 25th in a game played at Magnificat High School.

The Blue Streaks were led by senior Gemma Wichmann with 16 points and 6 rebounds. Wichmann was honored after halftime for becoming the all time leading rebounder in Magnificat Basketball history as she surpassed the 700 rebound mark early in the contest. She will be heading to Loyola University Chicago next season to continue her basketball career.

Junior Elise LaPorte added 9 points, while Elle Lakios and Sophomore Lizzie Godlewski contributed 8 points each. Godlewski dished out 7 assists for the game.

Magnificat advances to the OHSAA Division II District Championship against Hudson which will be held on Saturday, February 28th at 7:00pm at Lake High School in Uniontown.
